Red Clay, White Water, and Blues: A History of Columbus, GeorgiaColumbus is the third largest city in Georgia, and Red Clay, White Water, and Blues is its first comprehensive history. Virginia E. Causey documents the city's founding in 1828 and brings its story to the present, examining the economic, political, social, and cultural changes over the period. It is the first history of the city that analyzes the significant contributions of all its citizens, including African Americans, women, and the working class.

Columbus is the third-largest city in Georgia, and Red Clay, White Water, and Blues is its first comprehensive history. Virginia E. Causey documents the city's founding in 1828 and brings its story to the present, examining the economic, political, social, and cultural changes over the period. It is the first history of the city that analyzes the significant contributions of all its citizens, including African Americans, women, and the working class. Causey, who has lived and worked in Columbus for more than forty years, focuses on three defining characteristics of the city's history: the role that geography has played in its evolution, specifically its location on the Chattahoochee River along the Fall Line, making it an ideal place to establish water-powered textile mills; the fact that the control of city's affairs rested in the hands of a particular business elite; and the endemic presence of violence that left a "bloody trail" throughout local history.

Causey traces the life of Columbus: its founding and early boom years; the Civil War and its aftermath; conflicts as a modern city emerged in the first half of the twentieth century; racial tension and economic decline in the mid-to-late 1900s; and rebirth and revival of the city in the twenty-first century. Peppered throughout are compelling anecdotes about the city's most colorful characters, including Sol Smith and His Dramatic Company, music phenom Blind Tom Wiggins, suffragist Augusta Howard, industrialist and philanthropist G. Gunby Jordan, peanut purveyor Tom Huston, blueswoman Ma Rainey, novelist Carson McCullers, and insurance magnate John Amos.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Engaging Way to Prevent Summer Slide!
Format: Paperback
This Summer Bridge Activities Workbook is an essential tool for keeping kids engaged in learning over the summer! Covering reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, it ensures a well-rounded review of key subjects in just 15 minutes a day. The fun, interactive activities keep kids motivated, and the inclusion of flashcards, stickers, and online IXL practice adds extra value. I’ve recommended this to parents every year because it helps students transition smoothly into the next grade while maintaining their academic progress. If you want to prevent learning loss in a fun, low-stress way, this workbook is a fantastic choice!

Great summer workbook
Format: Paperback
This book is a great tool to use over summer break to prevent loss of learning. I have been using this book with my 2nd grader for a few weeks and he enjoys the short lessons. I would prefer the lessons have a few more questions to cover each lesson.

Great way to support summer learning!
Format: Paperback
I absolutely love the Summer Bridge Activities: Bridging Grades 3–4! This workbook is a fantastic way to keep kids engaged and learning over the summer break. The activities are well-designed, fun, and educational, providing the perfect balance between reinforcing what they’ve already learned and getting them excited for the next school year. The layout is visually appealing, with colorful pages and interactive exercises that make learning feel like play. What I appreciate most is how it covers key subjects like math, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills in bite-sized chunks that kids can easily manage. My child enjoyed doing a little bit each day, and I noticed significant improvement in their confidence as they completed each activity. It's great that this workbook also includes helpful tips for parents to guide their kids through the exercises. Overall, this is a must-have resource for parents looking to keep their children sharp and engaged during the summer while still having fun. Highly recommend!

Great for growing minds!
I love these workbooks! We used to buy these at a local store until it closed. They help kids retain what they learned in school over the summer. The worksheet usually takes 5-10 minutes a day.
