Vinyl LP pressing. 2001's No Such Place, Jim White's sophomore LP, is a collection of whimsical tall tales set to music. It's not unlike his debut of four years prior, Wrong-Eyed Jesus!, only bigger, darker, and weirder. A look back at 43 years of life-in-Technicolor, the disc is suitably all over the map, at times recalling Tom Waits at his most evocative, Neil Young at his most emotive, and PJ Harvey at her most desperate. But these tags too easily resolve a wonderful mess of an album by a man who's clearly operating on a wavelength all his own. Consider the lyrics: "I'm handcuffed to a fence in Mississippi/My girlfriend blows a boozy good-bye kiss/I see flying squirrels and nightmares of stigmata/Then awakening to find my Trans-Am gone"; "God was drunk when he made me, but that's okay, 'cause I forgive him"; "From baby's breath to the rattle of death, I seek the love that never fails. " Thus the stage is set for the "hick-hop" to come. That's the description the singer's given his brand of - oh, how shall we put this? - electronic-laced, bluegrass-tinged, outer-space country... with a hint of R&B thrown in for good measure. Not a sound that translates too well to the printed page (or computer screen), but one that's so adventurous that a lesser description just wouldn't do it justice. The ambitious genre cross-pollination - from the intergalactic-planetary take on Roger Miller's "King Of The Road" to the haunting "Corvair" to the Lou Reed hiccup that is "10 Miles To Go On A 9 Mile Road - is the work of some unlikely collaborators: trip-hop trio Morcheeba, Sade cofounder Andrew Hale, and electronic guru Q-Burns Abstract Message. How these people got together, let alone how they got together with White, is anybody's guess. Sometimes you just gotta look to the cosmos and give thanks. Which is just the type of act inspired by No Such Place, a crazy, mixed-up collection befitting a crazy, mixed-up world. The point's not to ask how it all came together; merely to take it in, admire it in all it's fucked-up glory, and give thanks where thanks is due.

Great "Preppy" Upgrade for a Casual Wardrobe
Size: 11, Color: White
I am very happy with these Bruno Marc Men's Casual Dress Sneakers. I’ve worn them about 10 times now, and here is my experience so far: Style & Versatility: These are the perfect "middle ground" shoe. They go great with both jeans and chinos for those nights when you want to look a bit more put-together than a standard pair of regular sneakers. The "Wife Test": My wife immediately noticed the difference; she mentioned that these give off a much more "preppy" and dressed-up vibe compared to my usual Nike sneakers. I’ve actually received compliments every single time I’ve worn them out. Comfort & Quality: They are surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. The material looks and feels like high quality, not cheap or flimsy. Durability: While I can’t fully attest to their long-term longevity yet since I've only worn them 10 times, the construction feels solid and the material seems durable. I’ll be sure to update this review if anything changes regarding how they wear over time, but for now, these are a fantastic purchase for the price.

Comfortable, clean white sneakers for any age (I hope)
Size: 13, Color: White, Size: 13, Color: White
Comfortable, clean, and make me look cooler than I actually am These Bruno Marc white sneakers are my attempt at staying “casually stylish” at 50 without embarrassing my kids or trying too hard. Good news: they’re insanely comfortable right out of the box, fit true to size (13 for the win), and somehow stay bright white no matter what I do. Bad news: they might actually be too white. I keep waiting for them to age a little so I look like a laid-back dad, not a dad who just walked off a mall mannequin stand. They’re lightweight, cushioned enough for all-day wear, and pair with everything—from jeans to the “I give up” shorts I wear on weekends. Still not sure if I’m cool enough to pull them off, but they make me feel like I might be… which is basically the whole point, right?

Affordable shoes that actually hold up
Size: 8, Color: White
I bought these for my son to wear to a quinceañera since he needed plain white shoes and I didn’t want to spend much for a one-time event. They ended up being his favorite pair. He’s worn them to school several times a week for the past 7 months, and they’ve held up really well. There’s some normal wear, but they still look good and he says they’re comfortable. I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality for the price and will likely buy another pair soon.
